Chinese Language Trainees Visit Shihushan Robotics Base

Chinese Language Trainees Visit Shihushan Robotics Base

On April 29, a group of over 20 Chinese language trainees had the opportunity to visit the Shihushan Robotics Innovation Base in Hangzhou. The visit was organized by Professor Tang Xiaowu, Vice Dean of the School of International Education, allowing these young learners from around the globe to engage directly with the forefront of robotics and artificial intelligence. This experience was aimed at demonstrating the advancements in science and technology made in China.

Accompanied by teachers from the Teaching Center and the International Chinese Language Education Office, the trainees embarked on a guided tour of the base. They first explored the exhibition hall, where they learned about the development journey and a variety of application scenarios for robots. Following this, they visited several innovation workshops, where base staff shared insights into design philosophies, research and development progress, and future applications of intelligent products. The achievements of amphibious spherical robots and autonomous systems, along with their intriguing battery life, particularly captivated the students.

The highlight of the day's activities was the demonstration of the 'Extraordinary Lite3' four-legged bionic robot dog. This remarkable creation received enthusiastic applause from the students due to its impressive agility and responsiveness to voice commands. Among those participating in the experience were CHRISTIAN ELDIN HERNOWO from Indonesia and EPIFANIO DE OLIVEIRA DAYANE from Brazil, who had the chance to remotely operate the robot dog, adding a practical component to their appreciation of artificial intelligence.

The visit sparked a keen interest in artificial intelligence among the students, who expressed their excitement and admiration throughout the day. Nini, a prominent Instagram blogger, shared her thoughts, stating that the visit was an eye-opener, highlighting the advanced technologies and the innovative atmosphere as particularly inspiring. MIRIAM HUPPERMANN from Germany echoed these sentiments, remarking on the diverse capabilities and applications of robots and witnessing how machines evolve to develop a form of consciousness.

The Shihushan Robotics Innovation Base is deeply rooted in the strong academic foundations of Zhejiang University's School of Control and School of Computer Science. It plays a pivotal role in transforming technology, nurturing entrepreneurship, and facilitating talent training. Furthermore, it serves as a critical resource for both teaching practices and scientific research in related fields. This visit not only expanded the scientific perspectives of the international students, showcasing harmonized advancements in research, education, and innovation, but also illuminated the vast opportunities for scientific collaboration across different cultures.
