Chinese Bridge Summer Camp at APU's Confucius Institute Concludes

A serene campus setting with vibrant flora, symbolizing cultural exchange.

On September 8, 2025, a成果汇报会 took place at the School of International Education of Zhejiang University, marking the conclusion of the 'Chinese Bridge' Summer Camp organized by the Confucius Institute at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. During this event, Wang Yufen, the Executive Vice Dean of the School of International Education, presented completion certificates to a group of 17 students.

As part of the program, students shared insights gained from their experiences during the camp. They articulated how their time at Zhejiang University provided them with a unique glimpse into contemporary China, stating their intention to further their studies in the country. The combination of classroom learning and hands-on activities not only improved their practical Chinese skills but also enriched their understanding of China's ongoing development.

The cultural exploration continued on September 9, as the summer camp team departed from Hangzhou for Shanghai. Over the next two days, they explored well-known locations, including the classical gardens of Yuyuan and the bustling Nanjing East Road. Participants admired the iconic skyline of the Lujiazui Financial Center from the Bund and ascended the Oriental Pearl Tower to take in sweeping views of both banks of the Huangpu River.

The students also enjoyed the quaint charm of Qibao Old Street, where they could appreciate the essence of the Jiangnan water towns. The juxtaposition of tradition and modernity in Shanghai was a source of inspiration for the participants, as they engaged in practical language exercises in local shops. Many utilized their newly acquired vocabulary to communicate effectively with shopkeepers.

On September 11, after a fulfilling journey, the students prepared to return home, reflecting on their experiences with a mix of satisfaction and nostalgia. One student poignantly expressed, 'China is even more colorful and friendly than we imagined. We will continue to work hard to learn Chinese and look forward to coming back to China next time!' This sentiment encapsulated the overall positive impression of their journey.

As their flight landed at Fukuoka Airport, the camaraderie among students persisted, with farewell messages exchanged in Chinese via their WeChat group. The connections formed through the 'Chinese Bridge' Summer Camp continue to resonate, bridging distances and fostering a global appreciation for Chinese culture.
