The International Education Institute at Zhejiang University held a successful Teaching Work Meeting for its Chinese Language Advanced Study Students on the morning of September 11, 2025, at the Yuquan Campus. The meeting gathered key figures from the institute, including Chen Weiying, Associate Dean, and He Xudong, Deputy Director of the International Chinese Education Office, along with over forty teachers committed to enhancing the educational experience.

Vice Dean Chen Weiying opened the meeting with heartfelt Teacher's Day greetings, conveying his confidence and hopes for the upcoming semester. He extended a warm welcome to the new teachers joining the institute, sharing perspectives on teaching arrangements and highlighting faculty strengths. His remarks effectively united the teaching staff and revitalized the educational mission for the new academic term.

Within his address, Dean Chen stressed the essential role of teaching Chinese to international students. He articulated that educators have transitioned from being mere language instructors to becoming cultural ambassadors, facilitating connections between China and various countries. Chen recognized the advantages of a younger teaching cohort characterized by approachability, innovation, and adaptability.

Additionally, Dean Chen outlined expectations for faculty performance, urging teachers to embrace passion and innovation in teaching, prioritize student care, and work collectively to establish a strong educational brand. His vision was framed as not just a call to action, but as an invitation to redefine the future aims of Chinese language education.

Hu Xiaohui, the Deputy Director of the Teaching Center, provided comprehensive arrangements regarding pivotal aspects of the upcoming semester. Topics included enrollment, class organization, and teaching schedules, which are critical for optimizing the educational framework. Guo Wenying, also a Deputy Director, offered guidance to new teachers on essentials like teacher ethics and foreign-related regulations.

Reflecting on Dean Chen's address, Hu Xiaohui expressed appreciation for the guidance and perspective shared, viewing it as a motivating outline for Zhejiang University's Chinese language program. She emphasized the commitment to enhancing the program’s international standing through exceptional teaching and robust cultural exchanges.

New faculty member Liang Mengxi resonated with Vice Dean Chen's goal of establishing a ‘flagship language teaching project’ at the university. With insights on the need to integrate interdisciplinary elements, she recognized the complexity of teaching Chinese as more than just speaking and writing, appreciating the deeper nuances now involved in the profession.

Teacher Wei Wenxu remarked that the practical suggestions received have significantly lessened the anxiety experienced by new educators about their initial lessons. The insights gained have equipped faculty with applicable techniques that are expected to enhance their teaching effectiveness right from the start.

Another participant, Teacher Ruihan, highlighted that the Vice Dean’s instructions illuminated the reasons behind teaching as well as practical teaching methods shared by seasoned educators. Ruihan reaffirmed his commitment to teaching with dedication and care, aspiring to embody both ethical values and professional expertise in the field of Chinese language education.

The conference established a collaborative environment for the teaching staff, emphasizing the mission of nurturing proficient Chinese language educators while fostering cultural understanding among international students, further solidifying Zhejiang University's role in the global educational landscape.
